Red Rock Canyon School has been providing Psychiatric Residential Treatment services to youth since 1999. A Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited facility, Red Rock Canyon School offers treatment for teens 12-18 who require structure and treatment beyond that available in tradition outpatient clinics and intensive outpatient services.

  • Specialty Groups (chemical dependency addiction groups, positive peer culture, self-esteem, anger management, boundary issues, grief/loss trauma, attachment, experiential learning activities)
  • 12 Step Program, NA/AA meeting, “Living in Balance” Program
  • Brain Science, Neuro feedback, Brain Mapping, Quantitative EEG
  • Specialized Therapeutic Services Including CBT, DBT and Trauma

Student Profile

A typical student is either male or female between 12-18 years of age and may have any number of the following issues:

  • History of emotional problems, such as poor self-esteem, poor coping skills, or lack of anger management skills
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Poor impulse control
  • Self-destructive behavior, including eating disorders, cutting and/or other self-harm
  • History of drug or alcohol abuse
  • History of poor school performance
  • History of abuse or neglect
  • Developing parent-child conflict issues
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder

Red Rock Canyon School specializes in the following symptoms and disorders:

  • Attachment issues
  • Adoption issues
  • Poly-substance abuse/addiction
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Clinical depression
  • Bi-polar
  • Oppositional or defiant behaviors
  • Conduct disorder
  • Mild eating disorders
  • Anxiety

Red Rock Canyon School serves families throughout the United States helping each student overcome their individual issues and find the worth and value in themselves. The clinical program at Red Rock helps them identify their problem behavior and build on their internal strengths. Red Rock Canyon School does not believe in a punitive approach to bring about change. We believe that there is a great child in each of our students; they just need to learn how to correct the thinking errors that have been destructive in their lives.

Red Rock Canyon School helps teens identify and build upon their individual strengths – which gives them hope for the future, an opportunity for healing, and provides a catalyst for family unity.

Borrego Canyon Trail to Red Rock Canyon Trail, Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park

This is a relatively easy out and back trail located near Trabuco Canyon that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The 4.2 mile round trip trek begins off of Portola Parkway near Foothill Ranch and ends in a smooth red rock canyon like you’d see in Arizona. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. To get there, park at the Borrego Canyon Trailhead to begin your hike and at about 1.5 miles in look for signs for the Red Rock Canyon Trail. Distance (round-trip): 4.2 miles

Elevation gain:  420 ft

Pros:  beautiful scenery at the end that’s unusual to Orange County, suitable for families

Cons:  can get crowded on weekends

Best time to go:  sunset

Parking: pay at the meter and put the receipt on your dashboard
